Spanish Football Resources

Valencia Club de Fútbol are a professional football club in Spain. The club has been around since 1919 and it is fast approaching its centenary year. Valencia CF are also known as the Els Taronges or Los Murciélagos. Outside the Spanish giants Real Madrid and Barcelona, Valencia enjoy the greater support in Spanish football. The club plays it football at the Mestalla, which has a capacity of just under 50,000. However, the club has a long waiting list in terms of the season tickets.

The major successes for the club came during the 1940s when they managed to win a bulk of the La Liga titles. The last of the six La Liga medals for Valencia came in the 2003-04 season. The club has completed a clean sweep of the domestic honours by winning the Copa del Rey on seven occasions and the Supercopa de España once. Valencia have also been successful in the second division of Spanish football with two titles. On the European front, Valencia have picked up UEFA Cup Winners’ Cup, UEFA Cup, UEFA Super Cup, and UEFA Intertoto Cup. However, the club has only been able to finish as the runner-up in the Champions League but on two occasions.

Over the years, the club has had some incredible players like David Villa, Fernando Gómez Colomer, David Albelda, and Ricardo Arias. Villa ranks as one of the top scorers at the club in recent times after ending with 129 goals – still several short of the record held by Mundo (238).

Even the Mestalla has been the home ground for the club also nicknamed as the Los Che, there have been calls for the club to extend the capacity. The club’s ambitious attempt to build a 75,000 seater stadium has been put on hold due to financial constraints.
