Italian Football Resources

Torino Football Club, or nicknamed as the Il Toro, are an iconic name in Italian football. Founded in 1906 as the Foot-Ball Club Torino, the club took upon its current nomenclature in 2005. It is one of the top clubs in Italian football and it is currently part of the Serie A, which is the top division in Italy. During more than a century of its existence, Torino has experienced a lot of highs and lows that have made them internationally recognised.

Trophies like the Italian Serie A have been won on seven occasions by the club. Crucially, Torino have been able to lift the title in five consecutive campaigns – by a team which has since been known as the Grande Torino. This team is widely regarded as one of the greatest in Italian football and it could have gone on to lift numerous European honours if not for a plane crash that killed the players and coaching staff in 1949. It is still regarded as one of the worst football disasters in the world. This iconic team was also responsible for helping Torino win the likes of the Coppa Italia, which has been won on five occasions by the team. Torino also picked up three second-division titles, one Mitropa Cup, and finished as a runner-up in the 1992 UEFA Cup final.

The biggest rivalry for Torino is with Juventus and games between the two clubs constitute the Derby della Mole or Torino derby. It is one of the fierce derbies in Italian football and has been played on 198 occasions.

Some of the notable managers for the club include Tony Cargnelli, Antonio Janni, Luigi Ferrero, and Luigi Radice. Giuseppe Dossena is a former Torino player who won the World Cup with the Italian national team, while the likes of Giorgio Ferrini and Lido Vieri have been able to claim European Championships successes.
