Spanish Football Resources

Sevilla are a professional football team based in the city of Seville. Also known as the Sevillistas or Los Rojiblancos, the club was formed in 1890 and is one of the oldest in the top flight. The club happens to be the most successful team from the community of Andalusia. They have been able to win multiple honours in the 21st century. This led to the club being inducted into the International Federation of Football History & Statistics as the world’s top club at the top of the century. The club’s main rivalry is with Real Betis. The match between these two teams is termed as the Seville derby.

The biggest success for Sevilla will be the La Liga title in the 1945-46 campaign. However, they have also won the Copa del Rey and the Supercopa de España at the same time. The former has been one on five occasions by Sevilla, who have also been successful in the second division on four occasions. On the European front, Sevilla are best known for dominating UEFA’s second tier European competition. The club has won the Europa League/UEFA Cup a record five times – including three of the bounce. The UEFA Super Cup was also added to the trophy cabinet in 2006.

Juan Arza, Jesus Navas, and Manolo Jiménez are a few of the top players who have represented Sevilla in the La Liga. The former holds the record for the most number of official league appearances with 349 games. The Ramon Sanchez Pizjuan has been the home for Sevilla since the 1960s. The ground has a capacity of just under 43,000, although it was originally planned by the club to build a 70,000 seater stadium. Sevilla are a regular contributor when it comes to the Spanish national team with a large contingent of players.
