Italian Football Resources

Associazione Sportiva Roma, or also known as Roma, happen to be a professional football team based in the capital of Italy, Rome. Founded in 1927, the club has been around much less than many of the top Italian teams. However, they have enjoyed a fair share of their success to earn themselves a huge fan following across the country and around the world.

The club enjoyed its first major success in the form of the Serie A title back in 1941-42 season. Even though the club went on to win two more top division titles, the success has been intermittent for the club with the last league title coming in 2000-01. Roma’s major success has been with the Coppa Italia, which has provided the team with nine honours – the last of them coming in the 2007-08 season. The impact of the club on the European stage has been much more limited, as they have been only able to win the Inter-Cities Fairs Cup on one occasion. There have been no Champions League or Europa League successes for the team, despite several years in the competitions.

Stadio Olimpico is the home pitch for Roma and they share the ground along with Lazio. The stadium has a capacity of just over 70,000 fans. Even though Roma have been angling towards a move towards a new stadium, the plans are yet to materialise. The club are nicknamed as the Giallorossi, and they have enjoyed some top players over the course of the history. Francesco Totti is a name that overpowers all of the players at the club after having made more than 600 appearances for the club in the league. Other top players for Roma include Vincenzo Montella, Carlo Ancelotti, Cafu, Roberto Pruzzo, and Rodolfo Volk.
Lazio are the main rivals for Roma, but other top Italian teams also provide a rivalry.
