|Elina Svitolina||Sloane Stephens|
The WTA finals were first held in 1972 and the inaugural edition was won by Chris Evert, who went on to win three more titles. Along the years, the Finals were held in different locations around the world. In the last years, the tournament was hosted in Singapore, and starting with 2019 the Finals will be played in Shenzhen for a record period of nine years (2019-2028). Qualification to the Finals is decided by a separate ranking, in which all players start with zero points at the beginning of the year. As they play and accumulate WTA points, the new ranking is being calculated. Usually, the 8 places are filled with players with outstanding performances during the whole WTA season. The event is played in two groups with round-robin matches and the first two places in each group will advance into the semifinals. The most successful players are: Martina Navratilova (8 titles), followed by Steffi Graf and Serena Williams (5 titles each).
