England Football Resources

Bournemouth are a professional football club founded in 1899, thus making it one of the oldest in England. The club is currently part of the Premier League and has been in the top flight for the last couple of years. Majority of the club’s history has been spent in the bottom tiers, as they were promoted to the top flight only in the 2015-16 campaign. The red and black stripes are the colours associated with this club.

Over the course of its history, AFC Bournemouth has experienced a lot of success in the lower tiers. The club has managed to win the Football League One and Championship in recent times, while they have come up as runners up in Football League Two in the past. In terms of the domestic cup honours, Bournemouth have been able to claim the Football League Trophy and Football League Third Division South Cup.

Some of the iconic players at the club happen to be Ted MacDougall, Steve Fletcher, Steve Jones, Sean O’Driscoll, and John Bailey amongst others. O’Driscoll is especially coveted by the fans, as he not only spent a long time as a player at the club but he also managed the team for a period of six years.

The club has played its football at the Dean Court, which has been the for more than 100 years after having first hosted the Bournemouth matches in 1910. Since then, multiple renovation works have taken place at the ground and they have enabled it to go from a 7000 seater stadium to its present capacity of 11,360. The record attendance at the ground happens to be a 28,799 crowd for a game against Manchester United in 1957. The biggest renovation work at Dean Court took place in 2001 and it is also known under various names for sponsorship purposes.
