Athletic Club, or commonly known as Athletic Bilbao, are a professional football club based in the Basque region of Spain. The club also carry a nickname of Los Leones and they were one of the founding members of the Spanish Primera Division. Despite a policy of largely having Basque players in the team, Athletic Bilbao have been able to remain in the La Liga throughout the club’s history. Along with Barcelona and Real Madrid, Athletic Bilbao are the three teams not to be relegated from the top division. The club were founded in 1898.

Athletic Bilbao have been able to lift the La Liga title on eight occasions. However, they have been more successful when it comes to the Copa del Rey after winning the title on 23 occasions. The team has also lifted the Supercopa de Espana on two occasions. The closest the club came to achieving success in the Europa League was finishing as the runner-up on two occasions. José Angel Iribar holds the record for the most number of appearances (614) for Athletic Bilbao, while Telmo Zarra is the record scorer with 333 goals for the team.
